We are Tethered Caps Ready

The CapWatcher Q-Line is prepared for the new EU regulation since the inspection system comprises special tethered cap inspection features.

Vision inspection specially tailored to tethered caps

On 2nd July 2019, the EU published a regulation to reduce plastic waste that involves a regulation with regard to closures on plastic beverage bottles: Plastic closures must remain attached to the bottles from July 2024 at the latest. This presents extensive challenges to the industry. However, the high quality of your plastic closure production can be guaranteed.

The CapWatcher Q-Line is prepared for the inspection of tethered caps. A specially designed camera and lighting setup focuses on the inspection of tethered caps typical elements on the inside and outside of the cap.

Software advancements based on Deep Learning

The heart of our systems is our self-developed software, the IntraVision. Previously, vision systems needed a large number of samples for set-up, containing every type of closure defect that should be detected. This approach reached its limits quickly or caused additional development effort when specialty closures or tethered caps were inspected. Now, a holistic software solution based on Deep Learning was implemented: It improves this time-consuming procedure, allowing to detect various closure defects even for challenging closure types like tethered caps.

Can your existing vision system already inspect tethered caps?

We would be happy to check it for you.

Your existing INTRAVIS closure system is probably already able to inspect common tethered caps. However, if you attach importance to user convenience, you might decide for the usage of a premium tethered cap design. In this case, the special camera and lighting setup of the CapWatcher Q-Line focuses on the inspection of typical premium elements on the inside and outside of the cap.

Not sure whether your INTRAVIS system is ready for your tethered caps? No worries! We check for you the impact of your new closure design. Just contact us for a full review of the Tethered Caps Readiness of your INTRAVIS system.

Tethered Caps: From regulation to implementation

Marius Pötting, our Product Manager Caps & Closures, talks about the impact of the new closure design on the packaging industry.

A real-life example

The CapWatcher Q-Line already inspects the tethered caps of our partner Husky Injection Molding Systems. As a result, the system ensures that 100% of your closures are fully functional when they leave the production line.

FAQs about Tethered Cap inspection

  • Almost every CapWatcher system is able to inspect tethered caps. If you decide to switch the production to tethered caps, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to support you with a fast implementation of the tethered cap inspection. Also, we offer to check your existing system for Tethered Caps Readiness.

  • The inspection is not limited to specific criteria. We already have a lot of experience with defects that can occur with tethered caps. For example, defects on tabs or hinges will be detected. You can train the system based on a pool of good parts, ensuring that deviations from the defined "good" closures will get rejected automatically based on the tolerance setting that you choose.
  • Setting up the inspection is particularly intuitive. The reference creation enables our customers to define the areas to be inspected for defects themselves. The customer uses a tolerance value to define which closure they want to evaluate as a good or bad object. INTRAVIS offers turnkey systems, worldwide support and training courses as well as comprehensive printed and digital information material for every single system. After the purchase of the system, INTRAVIS does not leave you alone with your new vision system. Moreover, service contracts offer worldwide support and service, even within 24 hours.
